| Day 2 | Bari – Polignano a Mare – Bari After breakfast, enjoy a private 2-hour walking tour, which will allow You to discover the best sites: the Cathedral, the Castle and the Basilica of San Nicola, which preserves the bones of San Nicola. Then, You will proceed to Polignano a Mare (35 km). Polignano a Mare is perched on a high rocky outcrop that reaches into the Adriatic Sea, a destination not to be missed on a trip to Puglia. In the afternoon You will visit a local winery. Your wine expert guide will show You the vineyards and the cellar where You will learn about grape varieties and wine production. At the end, enjoy your tasting of different Apulian wines: white, rosè and red! Back to Bari. Overnight. | Day 3 | Bari – Castel Del monte – Trani – Bari After breakfast departure to Castel Del Monte, an inhumanly exact geometric shape on a hilltop. Mysterious and perfectly octagonal, it's one of southern Italy's most talked-about landmarks and a Unesco World Heritage. Enjoy a lunch in a masseria. In the afternoon You will discover the stunning city of Trani, with its old city centre, the medieval quarter Jewish, the castle built by the Emperor Frederick II and the magnificent Cathedral. The tour will end with a tasting of extra virgin olive oil and the visit of an olive oil mill. Back to Bari. Overnight. | Day 4 | Matera – Altamura - Bari You will visit Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site best known for the Sassi di Matera, an ancient city with houses that have been excavated into the rocks and inhabited since the Stone Age. Rupestrian churches, houses, caves, and ancient streets create a unique and suggestive landscape, where Mel Gibson chose to shoot the movie, The Passion of the Christ. On the back way to Bari, a short stop in Altamura, famous for its bread. Here, You will visit a bakery and learn about the process of bread making. Overnight. | Day 5 | Castellana Caves - Martina Franca Departure to Castellana Caves, a complex of underground caves of karstic origin, natural heritage of inestimable value. After the tour, proceed to Martina Franca with its lovely historic centre. The town is built on a hill in the green Valle d'Itria. In the afternoon attend a cooking class or enjoy a sightseeing tour of the village. Overnight in Martina Franca or nearby. | Day 6 | Alberobello – Locorotondo - Cisternino Excursion to Alberobello “the capital of Trulli houses”, a UNESCO Site. Trulli are ancient 14th century stone houses with a round shape and a conical roof; they are an icon of the region. During the tour You also will visit a local farm, famous for the production of Apulian organic cheese, where You will taste freshly hand-made excellent Mozzarella and other Apulian cheese! Next, You will proceed to Locorotondo, the old town layout follows a circular plan, with narrow and concentric arranged streets lined with whitewashed houses called "Cum-merse". Before coming back to the hotel, You will stop shortly also in Cisternino | Day 7 | Lecce Today You will visit Lecce, the main city of the Salento area. The superb beauty of its churches and elegant noble buildings attracts a great number of visitors because this city is the capital of Baroque art in the South. For this reason, Lecce is called “the Florence of the Southern Italy”. Lecce has a lot to offer for foodies! One of the local specialties that you can’t miss is the typical Pasticciotto Leccese (a sweet pastry filled with delicious cream and cooked in the oven).
